The U.S. Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture founded in 1885. The Forest Service manages public lands in national forests and grasslands.  Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the Forest Service, summed up the mission of the Forest Service "to provide the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people in the long run."  National forests and grasslands encompass 191 million acres (77.3 million hectares) of land, which is an area equivalent to the size of Texas.

 Wildland Fire Chemical Systems (WFCS) is a part of Missoula Technology and Development Center. We are located at the Missoula Technology & Development Center in Missoula, Montana. WFCS provides National Resource Agencies with detailed  information promoting safe and effective Fire Suppression Chemicals and  Aerial Delivery Systems.

National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise, Idaho is the nation's support center for wildlandfirefighting. Seven federal and state agencies call NIFC home and work together to coordinate and support wildland fire and disaster operations. California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CDF) is currently authorized to operate 41 Conservation Camps statewide that house nearly 4,000 inmates and wards. These camps are operated in conjunction with the California Department of Corrections (CDC) and the California Department of the Youth Authority (CYA). Through these cooperative efforts CDF is authorized to operate 198 fire crews year-round.
